Rain Expected on September 12‑13 During BRICS Summit, Says Indian Meteorological Department

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that the days of the upcoming BRICS summit—12 and 13 September—will be accompanied by rain across Delhi and the surrounding NCR region. After issuing a red alert on Friday, officials anticipate light to moderate showers in the morning, sporadic lightning, followed by a second wave of light‑moderate rain in the evening.

The IMD’s short‑term forecast indicates that north Delhi will see light rain with thunder, while other parts of the city could receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Temperatures are expected to dip below 33°C during the summit, offering a welcome reprieve from the 36.6°C high recorded on Thursday.

The prevailing weather pattern is tied to a shift in the monsoon axis toward the south, coupled with dominant easterly winds from Friday onward. Similar weather is projected for nearby states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Rajasthan, though rain is likely to be limited to 30‑40 percent of the region.

Organisers are proceeding with plans for the summit at the India Expo Centre, which will include a ‘Bharat Innovates’ exhibition, a family photo corner, a tree‑planting ceremony and a grand dinner chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
