Rain‑delayed pilgrimage vehicle overturned by speeding truck in Eta district
A rain‑soaked stretch of highway in Eta district turned fatal on August 2 when a speeding truck collided with a tractor‑trolley carrying Kavad Yatra pilgrims. The convoy, which had approximately 17 participants from Kishanpur in Manpur’s Kurawali police area, was proceeding at a reduced pace because of the downpour.
The truck, traveling at high speed, slammed into the back of the slow‑moving vehicle, causing it to flip onto its side. Seven people were hurt in the impact; one of them suffered severe injuries and was referred to Safai Medical College for specialized care. The rest of the injured are recovering at the district medical college.
Local bystanders immediately assisted the victims, applying basic first aid until the arrival of 108 ambulances. The emergency units promptly transported the injured to nearby hospitals, while law enforcement officers arrived later.
Dr. Srijit, a senior doctor at the district hospital, confirmed that the critical patient was shifted to a higher centre for better management, and the other patients remain under observation with stable vitals.
Authorities are urging drivers to respect speed limits, especially in areas where pilgrimage traffic is common and weather conditions are unpredictable.
