Rahul Gandhi’s Tea Cup Analogy Sparks Parliamentary Row

Rahul Gandhi’s analogy that one type of cup is given to Dalits and discarded while another is reused by the upper castes ignited a storm in India’s lower house. The statement, made during a press conference, was quickly seized upon by Union Minister Giriraj Singh, who labelled the comment as a political stunt.

Singh pointed to a video of a tea stall where Gandhi, alongside senior Congress figures, appeared to decline water offered by a staff member. Interpreting the gesture as an endorsement of untouchability, he argued that Gandhi was undermining the country’s commitment to caste equality.

The debate has since expanded, with Singh demanding that the opposition cease using identity politics as a tool for electoral advantage.
