Rahul Gandhi Faces Sharp Criticism Over Foreign Trips and Remarks
Hyderabad, October 25: Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao's grandson, NV Subhash, has launched a strong attack on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Subhash labelled Gandhi's actions 'anti-national' and said his conduct abroad showed a pattern of undermining Indian institutions.
The criticism centred on Gandhi's frequent foreign visits and public statements. Subhash argued that these moves were part of a planned attempt to weaken the constitutional order, the judiciary and the election machinery before the upcoming state assembly polls.
Subhash told reporters, "Whenever he goes abroad, something strange happens to his entire circle. A leader of the opposition can critique the Modi government in a disciplined way. But he chooses to target the Constitution, the Election Commission, the system as a whole and the judiciary. One day he will attack the media as well. Right now he is travelling abroad and creating difficulties for people."
He insisted that a responsible opposition leader must remain in the country and stay close to party cadres and the public. Subhash said that after returning home, Gandhi makes statements unrelated to ground realities and deliberately stirs up sections of society. "Everyone is watching," he said. "In the assembly elections of the five states, he will complete a century of defeats."
Accusing the Congress leader of inflaming sensitive communal and social sentiments to safeguard his political future, Subhash said the situation was becoming 'worrying'. "He always wants to provoke some sections of society. One day he hurts Sikh feelings, and the next day he stirs the sentiments of another minority community."
Subhash also claimed that Gandhi was building a ready excuse for a probable Congress defeat in the coming assembly elections. He alleged that the Congress leader was questioning electronic voting machines (EVMs) and other electoral mechanisms to prepare this ground.
"He knows very well that his party will suffer a severe defeat in the elections of the five states. He is already getting ready with excuses," Subhash said.
Advising Gandhi to change his style of functioning, the BJP spokesperson urged him to uphold the standards set by former opposition leaders. "We, the Bharatiya Janata Party, demand that Rahul Gandhi behave like a responsible opposition leader," Subhash said. "His forefathers ruled this nation, and several senior Congress leaders have served as Leader of Opposition, but they never behaved like this."
