Opposition leader R Ashok demands emergency drought relief and compensation in Karnataka

During a briefing in Bangalore, BJP senior leader R. Ashok called for an immediate statewide drought declaration, insisting that a ₹50,000 per acre indemnity is essential to prevent further farmer suicides. He highlighted that the current government’s inaction is amplifying the distress of thousands of agrarian families.

He also criticized the chief minister for allegedly instructing farmers not to sow crops, a move he described as worsening the crisis. Ashok claimed that the Congress‑led administration is staging the implementation of the VB‑G Ramji scheme, a program the BJP previously opposed, to gain political mileage.
