Former Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal has accused the Punjab government of allowing crime to spiral out of control. In a series of posts on social media platform X, she claimed that prisoners are running amok inside jails, torching property and using smuggled mobile phones with impunity. Maliwal specifically mentioned the murder of an on-duty Assistant Sub-Inspector in Amritsar’s Majitha area, calling it the latest symptom of a collapsing security apparatus. She argued that the state government has failed to implement even basic discipline behind bars while criminals operate freely on the streets. The Rajya Sabha member also took aim at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging he has given up independent decision-making in favour of Arvind Kejriwal. She described the situation as deeply embarrassing for Punjab and warned that continued inaction would only embolden anti-social elements. The remarks come amid growing opposition pressure on the ruling AAP over repeated incidents of violence.
