Punjab Law and Order Concern Raised by Chirag Paswan
Chirag Paswan, Union Minister and chief of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), has raised serious concerns about the law and order situation in Punjab. Speaking in Chandigarh on Wednesday, he said the issue deserves urgent attention and is not merely a matter of political rhetoric.
In a conversation with journalists during his Chandigarh visit, Paswan said he was speaking on the matter because of a personal connection to Punjab. “My maternal home is in Punjab, and I see murder incidents happening there almost every day. Drug addiction and rising criminal activity are worrying for the state,” he said.
He also addressed the wider issue of youth discontent, saying that some concerns among young people can be resolved only through constructive engagement. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi favours reaching out to youth on every available platform to understand their views.
Paralleling these remarks, Paswan indicated that his party is preparing for electoral politics in Punjab. He noted that a state executive meeting had been held in Chandigarh that day, and that the party team under in-charge KP Chaudhary would discuss future strategy after the meeting.
Paswan further referred to an event organised at CGC University in Mohali, aimed at direct interaction with young people. He stressed that youth are the future of the nation and that their problems and ideas must be understood before any solution can be found.
On the electoral process and the special intensive revision of voter lists, which opposition parties have questioned, Paswan criticised the opposition. He acknowledged their right to protest but argued that such protests have not helped them, adding that they suffer defeat in elections wherever they are held.
