Punjab has officially designated Sri Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, and the Golden Temple corridor in Amritsar as holy cities. This significant move enforces a complete ban on the sale of alcohol, meat, and tobacco within these sacred areas. The announcement was made during a special session of the Punjab Assembly held at Sri Anandpur Sahib, commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted that this holy city status aims to safeguard the profound religious and cultural heritage of these vital Sikh centers. Furthermore, a dedicated fund will be established to enhance cleanliness, maintenance, and conservation efforts, ensuring these sites are preserved for future generations. This historic step recognizes the spiritual importance of areas surrounding Punjab’s three Sikh takhts, reinforcing the state’s commitment to its rich cultural and religious identity. National leaders have lauded the decision, anticipating a positive impact on Sikh communities worldwide.
