Punjab Assembly Uproar Over Congress MLAs Stopped at Gate

Chandigarh, October 27: The final day of the Punjab Assembly session on Tuesday saw a sharp exchange between the ruling and opposition benches after Congress MLAs were reportedly stopped from entering the House.

Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa told reporters that the objection was directed at Sukhpal Singh Khaira, but the document in question was not signed. He questioned whether any person could be stopped outside the House, and whether Sukhpal Singh Khaira could be barred inside the Assembly.

Bajwa asked how the opposition could be stopped at the gate.

AAP MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal rejected the allegations, saying no such incident had occurred. He claimed the Speaker was calling the members in and that no one had stopped anyone. He accused the opposition of making baseless claims and said they routinely spoke falsely about everything.

Dhaliwal further alleged that opposition leaders stepped out on flimsy pretexts only to get photographed, and said nothing more had happened.

The dispute came on the same day Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan addressed reporters on the government's record, including the Special Road Safety Force and the crackdown on shooting incidents, and warned that offenders would not be spared.
