Puneet Issar Responds to Naseeruddin Shah's Naxal Comment

Mumbai, October 29: Reactions from film and television personalities have continued to pour in after Naseeruddin Shah's controversial 'mental Naxal' statement. Actor Puneet Issar has now weighed in, delivering a pointed response to his senior colleague.

Shah had recently posted a video on social media in which he criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party and the policies of the Centre. He argued that critics of the government are frequently described as 'anti-national' and given labels such as 'tukde-tukde gang' by the government's backers.

In the clip, Shah said, "I say with pride, I am a mental Naxal." He also alleged that individuals who do not agree with the BJP's ideology are being targeted and that efforts are being made to take revenge on them. His remarks have been seen as a strong criticism of the present government.

Talking to IANS, Puneet Issar reacted to the statement by praising Shah as a senior and an accomplished artist who had also taught him. He added, however, that Shah tends to speak on issues in a predictable way and often stays silent on global or national matters.

Issar also said that Shah backs Naxalites and holds a one-sided leftist view. According to him, Shah's call to free Naxalites raises doubts about his Indian identity if he continues to speak in this manner.

The actor was quick to add that every individual has the freedom to share opinions on any issue and to criticise the government. "If he is not happy with the government, he should fight the elections and defeat it," Issar said. "The government has not come to power by force. It was voted in by the people."

Actor Paresh Rawal also weighed in on the debate, saying that everyone is entitled to express their feelings. He said he could not comment on Naseer bhai's personal views.
