Pune Rescue Operations Underway After House Collapse Amid Monsoon Floods

Early Monday morning, a residential structure in Patan village, Mawal taluka, Pune, collapsed under the weight of monsoon‑induced water pressure. Emergency responders fear that several occupants may be trapped beneath the wreckage.

The district disaster management officer immediately alerted the Mawal tehsildar, who reached the site and coordinated the launch of rescue teams. Recognising the scale of the incident, officials called upon the National Disaster Response Force’s 5th battalion for additional manpower and technical support.

Thirty NDRF personnel arrived equipped with hydraulic cutters, breathing apparatus and other rescue gear. Their mission focuses on locating survivors, providing first‑aid, and safely removing debris.

The collapse coincides with widespread monsoon disruptions across Maharashtra. Mumbai‑Pune rail services have faced cancellations and rerouting because of landslides in the Western Ghats. Additionally, the Mumbai‑Pune Expressway and the older highway toward Mumbai have been closed on the Mumbai‑bound side due to severe waterlogging, prompting the Pune police commissioner to discourage non‑essential travel between the two cities.

In Thane, authorities reported a billboard falling at Cadbury Junction and numerous trees uprooted across the city. The Thane‑Bhiwandi road near Rahnal village is submerged under two feet of water, making vehicular movement hazardous.

Residents across the affected districts are urged to stay indoors, avoid low‑lying zones, and keep official weather apps active for continuous updates on rainfall, flooding and rescue operations.
