Pune Collapse Leaves 23 Potentially Trapped, Rescue Operations Intensify
A construction accident in Pune's Pimpri‑Chinchwad zone resulted in the sudden collapse of an unfinished building on 8 July. Authorities estimate that up to 23 people may be trapped under the wreckage.
The Southern Command's joint task force, featuring army engineers, medical staff and relief personnel, has joined forces with the NDRF, police, fire department and other agencies. Their combined effort has already rescued twelve individuals – five of whom escaped unaided and seven who were rescued by experts. One victim remains in serious condition and is being treated at a hospital.
The incident sparked chaos in the surrounding neighbourhood, prompting rapid deployment of local police, fire fighters and disaster response teams. Deputy chief minister Sunetra Pawar has directed senior officials to push the rescue drive to war‑like intensity, ensuring swift medical attention for the injured and relentless efforts to free anyone still trapped.
