New Pumped Storage Support Included in Adani’s Massive Transmission Contract

Adani Energy Solutions Limited has secured a ₹4,700‑crore transmission contract that not only moves 4,500 MW of renewable power from Karnataka to Maharashtra but also backs the rapid rollout of pumped‑storage systems in Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The award came through a tariff‑based competitive bidding (TBCB) process, where AESL emerged as the lowest bidder. CEO Kandarpa Patel emphasized that pumped‑storage projects are emerging as a critical enabler for India’s clean‑energy transition, providing the flexibility and reliability needed to absorb large renewable outputs.

The project will introduce 562 km of new circuit kilometres and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity, pushing AESL’s total network to 29,739 km and 143,425 MVA. Key infrastructure includes a 765/400 kV sub‑station at Satara, a double‑circuit 765 kV line from Kolhapur, and an expanded Kolhapur pooling station, all to be delivered within 36 months.

By strengthening the transmission link between southern and western India, the initiative supports the nation’s goal of 500 GW of non‑fossil energy capacity by 2030, creating dedicated pathways for solar, wind and pumped‑storage resources to reach major consumption hubs.
