In a significant development for Puducherry’s upcoming Assembly polls, the BJP has rolled out its second candidate list, spotlighting M. Arul Murugan for Karaikal South. Announced on Sunday by the Central Election Committee, this move bolsters the party’s lineup as the 2026 elections draw nearer.
Building on Saturday’s first list, the BJP has methodically announced nominees for vital constituencies. Standouts include A. Namassivayam in Mannadipet, E. Theppanithan representing Ossudu reserved for Scheduled Castes, PML Kalyanasundaram in Kalapet, and VP Ramalingam for Raj Bhavan.
Further strengthening its slate, the party selected A. Johnkumar for Mudaliarpet, Ambalam R. Selvam for Manavely, GNS Rajasekaran for Thirunallar, TKSM Meenakshisundaram for Neravy-TR Pattinam, and A. Dineshan for Mahe. This comprehensive approach reflects the BJP’s intent to mount a strong challenge across the board.
Coinciding with this, the BJP released its third Kerala list with 11 names, showcasing a broader regional momentum. Puducherry’s legislature comprises 33 seats—30 elected and three nominated— with voting set for April 9 and counting on May 4.
Political fervor is palpable post the election schedule reveal. Rival parties are ramping up grassroots efforts, door-to-door campaigns, and public rallies to sway the electorate. The BJP’s candidate choices, blending experience and local appeal, could reshape alliances and voter sentiments in this coastal union territory.
