Public Sector Entities Report 2026‑27 Highlights Key Findings

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises submitted six reports to the Lok Sabha on Thursday, providing a snapshot of the performance of government‑owned companies for the fiscal year 2026‑27.

Led by BJP national vice‑president Baijayant Jay Pandey, the committee delivered a comprehensive inquiry into NHPC Ltd., a horizontal assessment of insurance‑sector public undertakings, and four Action‑Taken Reports (ATRs) that monitor corrective actions.

Among the ATRs, the audit of BSNL’s deployment of 25,000 Wi‑Fi hotspots stands out, as does the follow‑up on exhaustive probes of REC Ltd. and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. Another ATR examines the performance of petroleum and natural gas public enterprises.

The insurance‑sector report emphasized expanding insurance penetration across the country, reinforcing the "insurance for all by 2047" target. It called for a digital overhaul to make affordable insurance products readily available, thereby strengthening financial security for citizens.

The committee’s output has surged: twelve reports were filed in 2024‑25, rising to eighteen in 2025‑26, with record‑setting days of eight and eleven reports respectively. For the upcoming year, twenty‑one topics have been shortlisted, ranging from aviation, railways, coal and renewable‑energy investment to the application of artificial intelligence in public firms. Future deep‑dive audits will include major players such as ONGC Foreign Limited, NewSpace India Ltd. and Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

Pandey attributed the quality and speed of the submissions to the proactive engagement and constructive dialogue among all committee members, noting that this collaborative spirit enables the committee to discharge its parliamentary oversight responsibilities more efficiently.
