Project Tiger Network Expands to Safeguard 58 Reserves Across India

In a World Tiger Day message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the achievements of Project Tiger, the flagship central scheme that finances and guides tiger habitat protection. The National Tiger Conservation Authority’s 2023 report shows that the initiative now links 58 tiger reserves across 18 states, covering about 84,500 square kilometres – roughly 2.56 % of the country’s land area.

The programme provides financial aid, technical expertise and scientific management to tiger‑bearing states. By securing core habitats, conducting regular ground‑level monitoring and promoting community stewardship, Project Tiger has become a cornerstone of India’s long‑term commitment to preserving its apex predator and the forests it inhabits.
