The film based on the Kanhaiya Lal murder in Rajasthan has been released nationwide. Legal challenges, including appeals to the High Court and Supreme Court, attempted to halt the release. Following several cuts, the film has now been released. Kanhaiya Lal Sahu’s sons, Yash and Tarun, visited the Urban Square Mall in Udaipur to watch the movie. During the scene depicting Kanhaiya Lal’s beheading, both sons were visibly moved, unable to hold back their tears. Subsequently, the film’s producer made a significant announcement.
Producer Amit Jani shared a video of Kanhaiya Lal’s sons crying on social media. He urged the public to make the film a success, declaring that the earnings from ‘Udaipur Files’ would be given to Kanhaiya’s family.
In his post, the producer wrote, ‘This is Kanhaiya Lal ji’s son, understand the value of their tears, brothers, or will you only make Seyara a hit… I need such a collection in a week that I can give their family a check of 50 crores. The money that went to those making videos after eating scorpions became super hit, the money from Udaipur Files will go to Kanhaiya Lal ji’s family.’

The film faced legal hurdles in the High Court and Supreme Court before its release. The Supreme Court mandated the removal of certain scenes. The accused in the murder sought to prevent the film’s release. However, the Supreme Court left the decision of releasing the film to the central government, and it was eventually released on August 8.
‘Udaipur Files’ is based on the June 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The incident sparked outrage across the country. At the time, there was significant controversy surrounding a statement made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma about the Prophet Muhammad. Kanhaiya Lal had shared a social media post supporting Nupur, leading to his brutal murder by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Gaus.
