Priest Nitin Bijlawan Highlights Shiva’s Special Presence During Shravan

During the combined celebration of Shravan’s third Monday and Nag Panchami on August 17, priest Nitin Bijlawan addressed a sea of devotees at the Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple in Haridwar. He explained that although Shiva is omnipresent, the month of Shravan holds a unique affection for the god, prompting heightened devotion across the region.

According to local belief, the temple is regarded as Shiva’s in‑law’s house, and it is said that the deity resides here throughout the monsoon season. This belief fuels the special atmosphere that envelops Haridwar during Shravan, drawing pilgrims from far and wide.

Bijlawan emphasized a straightforward worship approach: offering a ladle of water with sincere bhava is sufficient to receive the deity’s grace. He also described the Nag Panchami rites, where a pair of serpents—Naga and Nagini—are placed on the Shiva‑ling and offered milk, rice, and fruits, symbolizing reverence for all life forms.

The priest concluded with a plea for maintaining the temple’s cleanliness and order, urging devotees to cooperate with staff and uphold the Clean India vision. He reminded everyone that devotion coupled with responsibility creates a harmonious environment for all worshippers.
