President Droupadi Murmu Attends Historic Convocation in Himachal Pradesh
On Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu landed at AIIMS Bilaspur’s helipad and proceeded directly to the campus for the institute’s first ever graduation ceremony. The event marked the culmination of the 2020 MBBS programme, with 92 doctors stepping onto the stage to receive their degrees.
Clad in kurta‑pyjama and graduation caps, the graduates were cheered by the President, who presented gold medals to the top performers in each stream. The ceremony featured a formal group photo, followed by remarks from the Union Health Minister, the Himachal governor, and the state chief minister, all lauding the institute’s contribution to regional health care.
President Murmu was presented with a traditional Ransinga as a commemorative gift, along with miniature idols of Baba Balaknath and Naina Devi. The convocation symbolizes a new chapter for AIIMS Bilaspur, which was inaugurated in 2022 and now boasts 750 beds, multiple super‑specialty departments, and a range of community health initiatives.
The President’s schedule continued with a scheduled visit to Manali, where she will attend the Hidimba Devi Temple ceremony and inspect the Atal Tunnel, a critical year‑round link between Manali and the Lahaul valley.
