Pradeep Bhandari Counters Rahul Gandhi Over UPI Tax Allegations

New Delhi, September 15 – Reacting to an Instagram post by Rahul Gandhi, BJP’s Pradeep Bhandari called the Congress a "shop of lies" and dismissed the suggestion that a tax will be added to UPI usage. He emphasized that ordinary users will not face any new charge.

Bhandari pointed out that the majority of UPI payments—over 90 %—are under ₹2,000, and the proposed framework will not affect these transactions. Even for payments exceeding that amount, the government has not announced any extra levy.

He further argued that the Congress has historically opposed the digital financial initiatives of the Modi administration and is now trying to create a false narrative around UPI’s success to gain political mileage.
