Public‑Private Partnership to Build Amenities at Omrudur Hospital Site

The Greater Chennai Corporation is moving ahead with a public‑private partnership to create a modern public plaza on the Omrudur government estate, adjacent to the state‑run hospital and medical college. The plan aims to turn vacant ground into a vibrant venue for seating, cultural displays, food services and community programmes. Under the PPP model, a private entity will be selected after a thorough evaluation by an appointed consultant, who will examine the project's commercial and technical prospects, compile a design package, and outline the tender process. The consultant will also assess the need to shift existing water and electricity connections and identify any implementation challenges. Revenue‑generating features such as advertising spaces and optional user charges will be factored into a long‑term financial forecast, while keeping the area freely accessible for everyday visitors.
