Political Tension Rises After CM Accuses BJP of Offering Rs 20‑30 Crore to NC Legislators
The political atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir grew volatile on July 11 when Chief Minister Umar Abdullah addressed party workers, alleging that a senior BJP figure – also a practicing lawyer at the Supreme Court – had directly approached National Conference lawmakers with a substantial monetary incentive and promises of cabinet positions.
Responding swiftly, the BJP’s Jammu‑Kashmir unit dispatched a legal notice through its high‑court representation, demanding that the CM withdraw the allegations, which the party describes as “fabricated and intended to tarnish the BJP’s reputation.” The notice further cautions that any repetition of such claims could attract civil damages of up to Rs 100 crore in addition to criminal liability.
