Political Storm Builds Over IPS Officer’s Mother’s Death in Uttar Pradesh

Ayodhya, August 18 — The death of the mother of IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra in Ambedkar Nagar has ignited a political firestorm. Socialist Party MP Avadhesh Prasad has demanded an immediate, thorough inquiry, giving the state police just 48 hours to present a conclusive report. He warned that a lack of decisive action would lead him to organize a satyagraha.

Prasad stressed that the fatal incident happened within a populated neighbourhood, making the alleged murder of a senior officer’s parent a matter of public security. Although the son lodged a homicide FIR, the local police’s handling of the case appears inconsistent, prompting fear among citizens.

The MP, who visited the site, expressed heartfelt condolences and insisted that any investigation must be impartial, swift, and transparent. He also linked the case to broader concerns about law‑and‑order, citing the ongoing disputes surrounding the Ram Temple climb‑on activities. Prasad demanded answers from the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that the controversies are harming Ayodhya’s image as a sacred city.

Former chief minister Mayawati echoed the sentiment on the X platform, describing the death of the 91‑year‑old woman as “deeply distressing” and urging the government to take strict legal action to restore public confidence.
