Political Rift Over Flag Display: Congress Leader Accuses BJP, Party Responds

The 80th Independence Day observances became a flashpoint when Congress member Supreya Shrinet posted videos that she said showed BJP workers flying the party emblem in place of the tricolour in Dharmatir district, Chhattisgarh, and at a venue in West Bengal.

BJP officials immediately refuted the claim, releasing a fact‑check that linked both videos to events held in 2026, well before the current celebrations. The party highlighted that the Chhattisgarh footage captured a BJP rally, while the West Bengal footage documented a minister’s office inauguration on July 6, 2026.

The incident led to an FIR against Shrinet for misrepresenting old footage as current. Senior BJP leader Ajay Chandrakar warned that exploiting a national festival for political gain was unacceptable and called for swift legal remedies.
