Political Rhetoric Escalates as Fadnavis Defends Women’s Reservation Timeline

The conversation over women’s legislative seats grew heated on August 24 when Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra, responded to a tweet by Congress veteran P. Chidambaram. Chidambaram had suggested that Fadnavis’s earlier statements on women’s empowerment were a result of mental fatigue and that his party opposed the 33% reservation bill passed in 2023. Fadnavis clarified that the 106th constitutional amendment includes a clause that the reservation will only be operational after the next census and delimitation exercise.
