Political Leaders' Remarks on Ayodhya Temple Donation Dispute Highlight Election Tensions
The Ayodhya Ram Temple donation controversy has become a flashpoint in Uttar Pradesh politics as the state prepares for its upcoming assembly elections. On 30 June, Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar addressed an array of statements made by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, BSP leader Mayawati, and AIMIM figure Asaduddin Owaisi.
Rajbhar dismissed Yadav’s claim that he would visit the temple after the polls, noting that Yadav has not yet set foot in Ayodhya. He also criticized the Samajwadi Party for focusing on vote‑bank politics rather than offering tangible support to families of victims linked to the donation case.
Speaking about Mayawati’s appeal to keep the dispute out of politics, Rajbhar agreed that the incident should serve as a lesson for better governance and prevention of similar controversies in the future. He called for institutional reforms to safeguard charitable contributions meant for religious projects.
Addressing Owaisi’s remarks on Muslim representation in the state’s leadership, the minister acknowledged the community’s historical support for the SP but urged a broader inclusion of Muslim faces in high‑profile roles, including the chief ministership. He also refuted Owaisi’s claims about police encounters, insisting that every encounter has involved individuals engaged in criminal or terror activities.
The minister concluded that the election should be fought on development and law‑and‑order credentials, not on inflaming communal sentiments.
