Political Motives Alleged in Karnataka’s Water Transfer to Telangana
The Janata Dal (Secular) has framed the alleged diversion of Krishna River water as a politically motivated act aimed at strengthening ties with Congress‑led neighbouring states. According to the party, the decision to channel water from the Almutti and Narayanpur reservoirs to Telangana aligns with a broader strategy to secure political goodwill, rather than address the pressing water shortage in Karnataka’s own drought‑stricken districts.
JD(S) highlighted that the state’s own taxpayers, natural resources, and water supplies are being leveraged for the benefit of states that share a political alliance with the ruling party. The party demanded transparency in water management and called for an independent audit of inter‑state water agreements.
