Political Leaders Mourn Death of Senior Congress Figure Mannan Mallik in Ranchi
Ranchi, July 14 – The political community in Jharkhand observed a wave of sorrow on Tuesday after Mannan Mallik, a senior Congress leader and former state minister, died at a private hospital in Ranchi. Mallik’s health had been deteriorating for several months, prompting repeated hospital visits before the final episode.
A former member of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, Mallik won the Dhanbad constituency in the 2009 polls on a Congress ticket. He later served in the inaugural Hemant Soren coalition government and chaired the Dhanbad District Congress Committee, where he was instrumental in consolidating the party’s organizational base.
Leaders across the spectrum expressed their condolences, noting Mallik’s dedication to the people of Dhanbad and his unwavering commitment to the Congress ideology. The late leader’s contributions to both political and social spheres were lauded as enduring.
Just four days prior to his death, the district and sessions court delivered a verdict in the controversial Matkuriya shooting case, dating back fifteen years. Mallik, along with thirty other accused, was found guilty under multiple sections of the IPC and sentenced to three years of imprisonment. Because the term was relatively short, he was granted bail under prevailing legal provisions.
