Political Leaders Express Condolences on the Demise of NC Patriarch Mustafa Kamal
Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, a revered elder of the National Conference and former cabinet member of Jammu and Kashmir, passed away on Tuesday evening after enduring a serious illness for an extended period.
Born into a family deeply embedded in the region’s politics, Kamal was the younger brother of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and uncle to the current chief minister, Umar Abdullah. His tenure in the state government spanned numerous ministries, and he remained an influential voice within the party hierarchy for decades.
The news elicited an immediate wave of tributes. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha used the X platform to share his heartfelt sorrow, extending sympathy to Kamal’s family, supporters, and well‑wishers, and invoking blessings for his eternal peace.
Chief Minister Umar Abdullah posted a personal note, confirming that Kamal was admitted to Parsh Hospital in Srinagar, where he fought his illness with resolve despite a rapid decline in his condition during the final four days. Abdullah praised the medical professionals for their care and prayed that Allah grants the departed a lofty place in the hereafter.
