Political Leaders Demand Resignations After Student Death Linked to MPSC Scandal

Pune, September 9 – In the wake of Pratham Deshmukh’s suicide, senior political figures have called for the resignation of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission’s top officials. The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president and the founder of a regional party have publicly blamed the state government for its “blind and deaf” response to the recurring paper‑leak incidents.

Both leaders asserted that the death of a young aspirant is a direct consequence of governmental negligence and alleged collusion between the MPSC chairman and leak networks. They demanded that any official refusing to step down be considered a close associate of the chief minister, appointed specifically to facilitate the illicit distribution of exam papers.

The demands were echoed by an MLA from the Nationalist Congress Party, who highlighted the paradox of students dedicating up to 20 hours daily for preparation while officials allegedly profit from selling confidential material. He stressed that the issue transcends politics and is fundamentally about safeguarding the future of Maharashtra’s youth.

Protesters have also pointed to recent disclosures suggesting that a high‑ranking joint secretary may have been involved in leaking marking patterns for departmental exams. They are calling for a clean‑sweep of the commission, replacing current members with individuals of unblemished reputation and initiating criminal investigations against all implicated parties.

The state government has yet to announce any concrete steps, leaving candidates and their families in a state of heightened anxiety and demand for accountability.
