Political Figures Call for Decorum after Udayanidhi’s Comments on Trisha

Chennai, 4 August – Leaders from the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Bharatiya Janata Party have jointly urged political decorum following the controversial statement made by Udayanidhi Stalin about actress Trisha. MDMK secretary Viko shared a message on X urging all public office‑holders to remember the need for restraint and to avoid language that lowers the tone of political discourse.

He highlighted that the remarks were delivered amid a protest over the Kaveri river water dispute and warned that exploiting such issues for political theatrics harms the state’s interests. CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanamugam labeled the comment “indecent and unacceptable,” emphasizing that politics must not sink to the level of personal insults.

BJP state vice‑president Khushbu demanded an apology from Udayanidhi, stating that any speech that demeans a woman is intolerable. The incident gained traction after a video of the remarks went viral, prompting complaints and calls for accountability.
