Political Leaders Clash Over India Block's Supreme Court Protest

New Delhi – The announcement by the India Block to march to the Supreme Court sparked a heated exchange between the ruling coalition and opposition leaders on 12 October.

BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok condemned the move as a sign of disrespect toward the nation’s highest judicial body and other constitutional institutions. He cited recent footage showing Priyanka Gandhi elbowing a police officer and Rahul Gandhi allegedly inappropriately touching an officer and shoving a journalist, calling the conduct "unparliamentary".

Jayveer Singh of Uttar Pradesh dismissed Gandhi’s ambition as “impatient” and urged him to prioritize the welfare of the poor before seeking office. Singh warned that the electorate’s mood could change if Gandhi truly serves the nation.

JD(U) national secretary Harshvardhan Singh defended the right to protest but cautioned that demonstrators should not trespass into private office premises, noting that blockades outside his party office have hampered daily work.

Senior BJP leader Satish Punia highlighted that the Congress has never lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission since the country’s first polls in 1952, questioning why the party now raises grievances.

Senior Supreme Court advocate Harish Salve was quoted as suggesting that foreign funding might be behind the organized protest, a point echoed by various BJP spokespersons.

The political showdown underscores the charged atmosphere as national and state elections approach.
