Police Water‑Cannon Deployment Fails to Deter Jharkhand Student Protesters

Ranchi, August 10 – As the student agitation over JPSC and JSSC exam discrepancies entered its 17th day, law enforcement resorted to water‑cannon fire to break up crowds gathering near the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.

Despite the barrage of high‑pressure water, the protesters, led by hunger‑striking activist Devendra Nath Mahato, pressed on toward the assembly gates. Mahato, brought in on an ambulance, reiterated that the strike would continue until a CBI inquiry is ordered.

“The health of a single activist is secondary to the future of millions of students whose seats are at risk,” Mahato told reporters.

City SP Parsh Rana clarified that police have no intention of preventing the peaceful encirclement but will intervene if any violent incident arises, pledging to keep the situation under control.
