Police Uncover Supply Chain Linking Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan to Gujarat Pharmacies

A multi‑state investigation spearheaded by the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch and the Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration has mapped a complex supply route that funneled fake Nikardia Retard 10 tablets from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan into Gujarat’s medical market. The chain began with a purported supplier in Lucknow’s Sena Medical, moved through a Paldi‑based agency, and was further connected to AV R Medicoz in Jaipur.

During raids across four states, investigators confiscated dozens of counterfeit tablet strips from Kishan Medical Store in Nadiad, Navkar Medical Agency and Mahadev Medical Agency in Bhuj, and additional stocks at pharmacies in Ahmedabad. Earlier FDCA inspections of more than thirty drug outlets had already resulted in the seizure of large quantities of the bogus medication.

The counterfeit product bore the same branding, label and batch number (AC G25007) as the genuine nifedipine sustained‑release tablet, making it virtually indistinguishable to consumers. The criminal network deliberately exploited this similarity to maximize sales while exposing patients to serious health hazards, including potentially fatal blood‑pressure complications.

Law enforcement officials have filed an FIR under numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, reflecting the gravity of the offence. The investigation remains active, with teams deployed in Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and surrounding districts to identify further participants and dismantle the entire operation.

Authorities have appealed to doctors, pharmacists and patients who may have encountered the counterfeit tablets to report any suspicions to the Crime Branch, emphasizing that cooperation is vital to prevent additional harm.
