Police Launch Search for Unknown Rider After Fatal Bhandup Bike Crash

Mumbai police have opened a manhunt for the rider responsible for a hit‑and‑run that claimed the life of 71‑year‑old Jayanti Namdev Panchal in Bhandup West.

The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Quari Road when a fast‑moving motorbike struck the senior citizen from behind. She was rushed to a hospital and later shifted to Criti Care Hospital, where she died despite intensive medical care.

The accused fled the scene on the same motorcycle. Investigators are now scrutinising CCTV footage from several cameras installed along the road to extract the vehicle’s number plate and identify the driver.

Police have also begun questioning local residents and witnesses who were present at the time of the crash. The case has been formally recorded as a hit‑and‑run, and officers are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

The investigation underscores the city’s ongoing challenges with traffic safety and the need for stricter enforcement against reckless driving.
