Police Recover Stolen Gold Worth ₹1.5 Lakh and Cash from Senior Passenger on State Transport Service

In Washim district, Maharashtra, police have successfully retrieved gold jewellery worth about ₹1.5 lakh and ₹28,000 in cash that were taken from a 70‑year‑old woman on a State Transport (ST) bus. Four women were taken into custody after the theft was reported.

The robbery took place on a bus traveling from Mangrulpir to Akola. The accused allegedly singled out the senior traveller’s bag, which contained the jewellery and cash. When the bus stopped at Shelu Bazaar, the four women left the vehicle. Alarmed passengers prompted the victim, identified as Chandrakala Bodkhe, to examine her belongings, where she found the missing items.

Law enforcement reached the location, traced the suspects to an auto‑rickshaw, and arrested them. The confiscated gold and cash were handed back to Ms. Bodkhe.

The episode raises concerns about safety on crowded public transport, especially for elderly commuters carrying valuable possessions.
