Police Raid Leads to Custody of Department Assistant Linked to Tulu Mandal

A night‑long police operation in Birbhum district culminated in the arrest of Probir Das, a senior assistant at the Land and Revenue Department’s Suri office, for alleged ties to stone quarry owner Tulu Mandal, who has been evading authorities since early August.

The raid uncovered five mobile phones and other items that investigators claim demonstrate a relationship between Das and Mandal’s illicit stone mining and sales.

Following the seizure, Das was taken before the Birbhum District Court, which ordered a six‑day police custody period. Government counsel Bivas Chattopadhyay presented the findings, emphasizing the potential link to illegal quarrying operations.

Das’s wife, Sathi Das, has publicly proclaimed his innocence, stating that he had no participation in any illegal activity.
