Police Probe Suicide of Ranchi Housemaid After Heated Video Call with Spouse

The Doranda police have opened an investigation into the death of Suman Kumari, a 28‑year‑old domestic worker who was found hanging in her room on July 17. The incident follows a fierce exchange with her husband during a video call.

Suman, a resident of Jagannathpur, had been working at the home of Pradeep Sen on Mani‑to‑la Kali Temple Road. According to preliminary reports, the video conversation with her Bengaluru‑based husband turned into a sharp argument. Shortly thereafter, she is believed to have set up a hanging device and ended her life.

After the call, the husband grew concerned and contacted Sen’s family, requesting an immediate check on Suman’s condition. When family members entered the locked room, they discovered her hanging from a ceiling fan.

Police secured the scene, collected the body for a post‑mortem at RIMS, and seized her mobile phone. Investigators plan to examine call logs, WhatsApp messages, and other digital footprints to reconstruct the events leading to the suicide.

The case has been recorded under appropriate legal provisions, and officials emphasize that a final verdict will depend on forensic and digital analyses.
