Police Officer’s Ultimate Sacrifice Prompts ₹1 Crore Relief for Family

Assistant Sub‑Inspector Harjit Singh, a serving police officer in Amritsar district, was assassinated while on duty on September 18. The fatal shooting took place in the Gait Hakima area during a night patrol.

The Punjab government, through Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, announced a relief package of one crore rupees for Singh’s surviving family. An additional one‑crore rupee insurance benefit will be disbursed by HDFC Bank, as confirmed by official statements on X.

DGP Gaurav Yadav posted a message expressing grief and solidarity, stating that the police department will stand firm alongside the victim’s relatives. He promised full police honours at the officer’s farewell ceremony.

Initial investigations reveal that the officer was targeted by unknown assailants who opened fire, causing critical injuries. Despite being rushed to an Amritsar hospital, Singh could not be saved. The police have mobilised senior officers to the scene and are pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators.
