Police Nab 60-Year-Old Shop Owner Over Sexual Assault of Minor in Assam

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 (IANS) – Law‑enforcement officials in Assam's Dhubri district have arrested a 60‑year‑old shop owner for allegedly sexually assaulting a six‑year‑old girl who entered his premises on September 4. The accused, named Jurain Ali, is alleged to have called the child inside, where the assault took place.

The child's family filed a complaint with the Bandi Hana police outpost, prompting an immediate investigative response. Within a short span, police located the suspect, seized him, and presented him before the local magistrate. He was remanded to custody pending further legal action.

During the interrogation, Ali confessed to the wrongdoing. Medical experts who examined the victim confirmed sexual abuse, along with visible injuries and bleeding. The case is now under the jurisdiction of the crime branch, which is collecting corroborative evidence for trial.
