Police misconduct allegations in Latehar spark demand for suspension and FIR

Following the social media outcry, local tribal groups and the Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha have called for the suspension of the officers involved and the registration of a First Information Report under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The alleged victims say the police accused the woman of poaching and forcibly took money meant for her daughter's wedding. While the accusations have not yet been independently verified, the pressure on law‑enforcement officials has intensified. The Latehar police administration, responding to the CM’s orders, assembled a probe team comprising a senior officer from the Balumath sub‑division and a female police official to ensure an impartial investigation.
