Police Get Five-Day Custody of YouTuber Aamir Shaukeen
A court has granted police five days of custody of YouTuber Aamir Shaukeen, rejecting part of their demand for six days. The defence objected to the remand plea, but the court allowed a shorter period of interrogation.
Police contend that the video at the centre of the case was shot in Ahmedabad. They want to establish the true location of the recording and look for mobile phones and other evidence that could support or challenge this claim. The probe may involve taking Aamir to Ahmedabad.
Lawyer Shubham Gupta said the police had sought six days of custody and the defence had opposed it. The court, however, approved five days. He said the police told the court the video was made in Ahmedabad and that the purpose of custody is to confirm the actual place of recording.
According to Gupta, no precise location in Ahmedabad has surfaced so far, and the police have not provided a particular address in court. He said the outcome of the five-day questioning and inquiry will decide which facts come out in the case.
Gupta added that the defence was handed a copy of the FIR during the hearing. The FIR cites sections 192, 196, 352 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Provisions of the SC/ST Act have also been added separately, though they are not mentioned in the FIR. Several of the applied sections are non-bailable.
Gupta explained that the next steps depend on the investigation and the report the police will file. Once the custody period ends, the police will submit a report describing the investigation, the points on which Aamir was questioned and the facts that emerged. A copy of the report will be given to the defence.
Asked about any other video linked to Aamir Shaukeen, Gupta said he was not aware of one. He said he knows of only a single video, in which comments were allegedly made against a person from Tripura, and the current FIR is based on that clip.
Advocate Vineet Jain also confirmed the six-day request and the five-day order. He said the police want to question other individuals seen in the video and carry out possible recoveries. Jain said Aamir could be taken outside Delhi and to places in Ahmedabad named in the police application.
Jain also said no complainant has so far made any statement levelling allegations in the matter. He stressed that the case presently rests on the FIR registered on the basis of the police version.
