Police Take Custody of Accused in Jharkhand Child Rape Case Amid Public Outcry

The Sitaraamdera police station in Jamshedpur reported that a 26‑year‑old man from the local Gokhai community has been placed in police custody following accusations of raping a seven‑year‑old girl in the Devanagar settlement. The alleged crime sparked massive outrage, prompting a sizeable gathering of villagers who confronted the suspect immediately after the incident.

Witnesses described how the mob beat the accused, tied a chain of footwear around his neck and demanded swift punishment. Law‑enforcement officers intervened, rescued the suspect from the hostile crowd and secured him for interrogation. The girl was rushed to a medical facility for a thorough health check and forensic analysis.

Police officials confirmed that the area is now under tight surveillance, with extra manpower deployed to uphold law and order. An FIR has been filed, and the case will be pursued under the applicable sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
