Police Complaint Highlights Alleged Harassment of Officer During Political Programme in Gangtok

An FIR has been registered after Assistant Sub‑Inspector Lakpa Shering Bhutia reported that he was assaulted and impeded by members of the Citizen Action Party during a membership drive on September 4. The officer, deployed to assess the security situation, says he was encircled, his collar grabbed, and he was pushed away from the venue when his police identity became apparent. He also alleges that party functionaries tried to persuade him to join their ranks. The complaint lists multiple Indian Penal Code sections, including harassment of a public officer, illegal confinement, intimidation, and unlawful assembly. Those implicated are currently under interrogation, with medical examinations conducted. The police have assured a thorough and unbiased investigation.
