Police Arrest Three Over Brutal Killing of Stray Dog in Bengaluru
Three people have been detained by Bengaluru police after a stray dog was allegedly hanged from a tree and beaten to death. The case has drawn sharp criticism and renewed calls for stronger protection of street animals in the city.
The killing was reported from the Gunjur area in Varthur on October 20. The spot lies near Greenwood High School, where the incident was seen by people in the vicinity and recorded by surveillance cameras.
Those named in the case are Muniyappa, Murali and Puneeth, all residents of Bengaluru. The arrests followed a complaint filed by an animal welfare activist after a video of the incident surfaced online.
The complaint stated that the accused used a heavy stick to beat a stray dog, causing its death. The activist said the act was extremely cruel and demanded that those responsible face strict legal consequences.
Police have booked the accused under Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The suspects remain in custody while officers continue their inquiry into the case.
In a public statement, the Bengaluru Police Commissionerate said cruelty toward animals would not be tolerated in any form. It confirmed that a case had been registered over the death of the stray dog near Greenwood High School in Gunjur, Varthur.
The department added that necessary legal action has been initiated and reiterated its commitment to protecting innocent animals and ensuring justice in such cases.
