Police Arrest Supplier After Confiscating 1.01 Kg Ambergris in Gujarat
Gujarat Police’s State Monitoring Cell executed a red operation near Dholera, Ahmedabad district, seizing 1.01 kilograms of ambergris worth about 1.01 crore rupees. The operation was conducted under the direction of the Director General of Police, G.S. Malik, to curb illegal wildlife trade across the state.
Inspector Ajay Chauhan’s team stopped a vehicle at Raj Chamunda Hotel, Pipli village, and detained Mehul Chauhan, who possessed five solid ambergris pieces of varying shades – white, cream, and golden‑brown. The Forest Department and the Forensic Science Laboratory confirmed the material’s identity.
The confiscated ambergris was appraised at over one crore rupees, and authorities seized cash amounting to 1,01,01,820 rupees under Section 106 of the Indian Citizens’ Security Code, 2023. Mehul was placed in custody per Section 35(1)(E).
During interrogation, Mehul explained that he had been instructed by a factory worker and local Pawan Koli in Bhavnagar to keep the ambergris for future sale, with promises of a commission. He claimed the product was intended for a buyer in his hometown Pipli, but police intercepted the handover.
