Police action against YSRCP leaders in Rajmundri raises concerns over democratic freedoms

Amaravati, August 19 – A sharp confrontation unfolded in Rajmundri when police forces intervened in a YSRCP gathering that featured former MP Margani Bharat. The party described the episode as a blatant violation of the right to peaceful political expression.

The incident occurred as YSRCP members were welcoming local TDP cadres joining their ranks. Heavy police deployment prevented the program from proceeding, prompting YSRCP activists to question the motive behind the crackdown. After the standoff, authorities took Margani Bharat into custody.

YSRCP’s statement called the episode “state-sponsored intimidation” and warned that such tactics undermine democratic institutions. The party appealed to the state’s leadership to refrain from using law enforcement to obstruct opposition activity.
