Police Action Follows Suvendu Adhikari’s Threat: Organisers of Humayun Kabir Rally Nabbed

Kolkata (June 30) – Within a day of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s stern admonition, the Murshidabad police took custody of three individuals accused of arranging a rally for AJUP head Humayun Kabir. The arrests were executed in two separate night‑time operations on Monday, targeting the Rejinagar and Shaktipur police precincts.

The accused – Golam Mustafa, Mohammad Aminul Haq and Anisur Rahman – face allegations of holding a meeting that featured provocative speeches, prompting the filing of FIRs at both police stations. The authorities claim the remarks could have destabilised communal harmony.

The police move was triggered by a heated episode in the West Bengal legislative assembly, where Kabir’s statements sparked strong opposition. During the debate, CM Adhikari warned that anyone who had invited the leader would be pursued, affirming that the state would uphold the rule of law.

Investigators disclosed that Aminul Haq resides in the Loknathpur hamlet of Rejinagar, while Golam Mustafa is a resident of the Kashi pur neighbourhood. Both men reportedly sought official permission to convene the meeting, which later turned contentious after the legislator’s speech.

Humayun Kabir, addressing the media after the chief minister’s warning, clarified that he had not insulted the CM personally but had criticised recent BJP entrants who, according to him, were fomenting unrest. He said he would accept any legal consequences and reiterated his determination to continue his political fight.

The swift police response signals the West Bengal government’s zero‑tolerance stance on meetings that are perceived to threaten public order, reinforcing the administration’s promise to act decisively on its own warnings.
