PNGRB Proposes New Tariff Policy for Long‑Distance Gas Pipelines

The regulatory board submitted a draft tariff framework intended for long‑haul gas pipelines. Under the proposal, city‑gas distributors would be required to charge lower rates for both CNG used in vehicles and PNG used for cooking.

Current transmission tariffs are calculated to deliver a 12 percent return on invested capital. Earlier, tariffs grew with pipeline length and distance from the gas source, creating a price disparity for remote consumers. A uniform tariff, first suggested in November 2020 and enforced from 1 April 2023, seeks to eliminate that inequality.
