PMFME Funds Boost Rural Bakery Industry in Bihar

The Prime Minister’s Micron Food Processing Enterprise (PMFME) scheme has become a catalyst for change in the small‑town of Shekhopur, Bihar, where Sanjeet Kumar converted a low‑earning garment shop into a high‑output bakery.

Facing insufficient revenue from his cloth store, Sanjeet struggled to provide for his family and keep his children in school. A chance conversation with a retailer introduced him to the PMFME programme, which offers financial backing for micro‑food processing ventures.

He visited the Shekhopur Industry Office, where staff explained the scope of the scheme, the documentation required, and the timeline for fund disbursement. After a brief review, his proposal received approval and the allocated grant.

The capital enabled him to acquire industrial‑grade ovens, dough mixers, and packaging tools. Within months, his bakery began turning out a diverse product range – from soft breads and crisp biscuits to savory burgers and toasted slices. Distribution now spans Shekhopur and the adjacent districts of Nawada and Lakhsirai.

Employment has risen as Sanjeet hired ten workers: six specialist bakers from Jharkhand and four village labourers. This new workforce not only stabilises his own income but also contributes to reducing local unemployment.

Sanjeet credits the PMFME scheme for the transformation and calls on other unemployed youths to seek assistance from government portals, assuring them that such initiatives can unlock sustainable livelihoods and foster regional growth.
